In 1999, the Southside Festival took place for the first time at the former military airfield in Neubiberg near Munich. 15,000 visitors attended the festival in the south until 2002. While the initial focus was entirely on rock music, more and more artists from the electronic dance music scene were added to the line-up. As a result of this change, the number of visitors rose continuously over the years. With an average of 60,000 visitors, Southside is now one of the largest rock and pop festivals in Germany.
