The band name Papa Roach comes from singer Jacoby Shaddix, who named the band after his grandfather. When Papa Roach formed in 1993, Shaddix was joined by Jerry Horton on guitar, Will James on bass and Dave Buckner on drums in a band that had come together at high school in Vacaville (California). Their first EP Potatoes for Christmas, which made Papa Roach famous in their hometown of Vacaville, was the beginning of the first dispute. This led to the sacking of bassist Will James in 1996, as he cancelled a tour with the band for a summer camp. James was replaced by Tobin Esperance, with whom they released the EP Let‘e’m Know! in 1999 and secured their first studio album contract with DreamWorks Records. This led to the release of Papa Roach's debut album Infest, which is still regarded as their most successful album to date and has gone platinum three times in the USA. Best known are songs such as Broken Home, Between Angels & Insects, Dead Cell and Last Resort, which reached number 4 in the singles charts in Germany and gold status in 3 countries. This album earned Papa Roach two nominations at the Grammys and the MTV Music Awards in 2001. This was followed in 2012 by the album Lovehatetragedy, which can no longer be musically categorised as nu metal, but also contains some punk elements. The album achieved gold status in the USA, Canada, the UK and Switzerland and reached number 2 in the American album charts. Nevertheless, the record was not quite able to match the success of Papa Roach's debut album. The band's third album Getting away with Murder also reached number 8 in the album charts in Germany, but was only marginally successful internationally. In 2006, Papa Roach changed studios and produced their new album The Paramour Sessions in the mansion of almost the same name, The Paramour Mansion, a building dating back to 1933. Within just 7 days, the album had sold over 37,000 copies in the USA and jumped straight to number 16 in the Billboard charts. After several drug excesses, drummer Dave Buckner left Papa Roach in 2008 to enter a rehab clinic. Papa Roach overcame this shock and worked on their album Metamorphosis in their studio in the Paramour Mansion, on which tracks such as Hollywood Whore, Lifeline, I Almost Told You That I Loved You and Head Enough appeared.
